It’s very important to prevent water from penetrating brick and stone masonry. If allowed to penetrate, it subjects the masonry to the damaging effects. Penetrating and breathable water repellents should be considered as a possible tool to prevent water penetration. In buildings where repairs have been completed, waterproofing is an effective method of insuring protection and longevity to the restoration work.

Recent innovation and research has led to development of high performing products that can safely be applied to common brick to increase water repellency from sustain breath ability of building facades and consolidate damaged brick faces. By use of these products, building owners can reduce deterioration of partially damaged brickwork.

Waterproofing is the formation of an impervious barrier, which prevents water from escaping wet areas to dry areas. Waterproofing can be applied to a variety of surfaces. Outdoor areas that can be waterproofed: brick and stone masonry, balconies, decks, retaining walls, and outdoor swimming pools. These surfaces include concrete, gypsum board, timber, and fiber cement sheets.

Buildings with paint coatings often exhibit peeling and flaking caused by water absorption and erosion from weather. By removing the problem, paint coating and applying elastomeric type paint, the exterior is sealed and protected from weather-related damage.
